Graphic Design (Bachelor of Arts)
Description
The program in Graphic Design, a labor market oriented program allows students to develop the creative skills needed for a professional standard of work in the graphics design and advertising profession.
The language of instruction of the program is English
General Objectives
- To develop the student’s capacity to think, write and speak effectively and creatively.
- To develop an appreciation of and respect for social, moral, and ethical values as the foundation of one’s relationship to others and one’s responsibilities to community and country.
- To develop the student’s analytical, decision-making and communication competencies together with those qualities of self reliance, responsibility, integrity and self-awareness which will promote personal achievement and contribution to organizations.
- To build breadth of perspective through the general education requirements and provide sufficient specialization to meet basic professional and career requirements.
- To provide the student with the basic requirements for academic and/or career advancement.
Specific Objectives
- To develop the creative and manipulative ability of students necessary for professional standard of work and the potential for future employment within the subject area.
- To initiate and develop professional working attitudes and methods, making students aware of their personal ability and responsibility to others.
- To provide students with knowledge of the historical, social and theoretical contexts of design and how they can be linked to everyday design solutions.
- To develop visual and other communication skills which will enable students to confidently enter and work within the varied nature of the profession.
- To develop students cultural, social and commercial awareness enabling them to identify and apply their specialist design function in the broader context of field, community and business activities.
- To prepare students for further education in Graphic Design and Advertising or related fields.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate their understanding of the philosophical, historical and socio-cultural framework of art and design practice.
- Demonstrate their understanding and skilful use of the elements and principles of visual design
- Apply problem solving techniques across a wide range of media, such as print based design, interactive media, 3D design and motion design
- Apply aesthetic sensibilities into their works and explore ways to balance between formal theories with practical applications.
- Use design processes and principles to create visual products that successfully convey a specific message to a targeted audience.
- Balance a thorough knowledge of software/hardware techniques with creative/conceptual/critical thinking and innovative approaches to various design problems.
- Use software technology in the design process and be constantly updated with graphic design software.
- Work independently and appropriately manage allocating time for each project.
- Compete successfully in the design industry by producing a portfolio of professional quality.
- Integrate their classroom learning into the professional design industry.
- Effectively present their ideas, works, and services to prospective clients.
- Approach design solutions with an authentic and personalized visual style that illustrates the student’s strengths and interests.
- Define and integrate an understanding of the role that artists and designers have in today’s world, whilst creatively contribute to the area.
