Profile
Dr Charis Xinari holds a doctorate degree and an MSc in English Literature from The University of Edinburgh, as well as a BA from the University of Cyprus. She previously taught at the University of Edinburgh for several years and has worked at the University of Cyprus both as a Special Scientist and a Visiting Lecturer. She was the director of the Scottish Universities’ International Summer School (SUISS) from 2004 to 2006. She was appointed Lecturer in English Literature at European University Cyprus in 2007 and became an Assistant Professor in 2011.Her doctorate examined gender subjectivity and embodiment through transsexual narratives in relation to the work of British author Angela Carter in whose work she specializes. Her research interests, conference presentations and publications lie in the areas of Twentieth Century British Literature, Postmodernism, and Gender with a particular interest in matters of the body both in literature and cultural theory and practice. She was the Guest Editor of the inaugural issue of the Journal of Critical Studies in Business and Society which was dedicated to gender. She is currently involved in an ESF project on Media Studies, and is interested in examining issues of media literacy from the perspective of Critical and Cultural Theory.
