  2. In Limassol Medical Association since 1985. Member of the Board from 1989-1997 and then President from 1997-2005. Organized 8 annual medical congresses successfully.
  3. In Cyprus Medical Association since 1982. Member of the Board from 1990-2006 then Vice President from 1997-2006 and Chairman of the Committee for Continuing Medical Education from 2001-2006. Cyprus delegate to the UEMS Council and to the UEMS European Accreditation Council for CME (EACCME) from 2001-2006. Re-elected to the Board from 2015 till today. Chairman of the Ad hoc committee for the implementation of a National Health System in Cyprus. Delegate to the UEMS Council.
  4. In Cyprus Association of Sports Medicine since 1982. Vice President from 2001-03 & from 2006-2009. President from 2012-14. Organized every year a sports medicine congress. Founder of the School for Education of Cyprus Association of Sports Medicine Members since March 2014.

 

Missions:

  1. IN SOUTH AFRICA-PRM: In July 1996, as a member of the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Delegation of the “PEOPLE TO PEOPLE INTERNATIONAL” Organisation (Citizen Ambassador Program), visited several Hospitals and giving lectures in several towns and Regions of the Republic of South Africa, for assisting the development of the Specialty of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine.
  2. IN CYPRUS-SPORTS MEDICINE: Pioneer and cofounder of the SPORTS MEDICINE CENTER of the Gymnastic Association Olympia G.S.O. (track and field sports) at Tsirion Sports Center of Limassol in 1989.
  3. Pioneer and planner for organising a Rehabilitation Unit at the newly built Veterans Health Centre in Palodia area called “Melathron Agoniston EOKA”.
  4. IN MEDITERRANEAN AREA-PRM: Pioneer and co-founder of the SOCIETY: “Mediterranean Forum of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (MFPRM) since 9/2000, with the aim to build bridges of understanding and cooperation among the European colleagues and the rest Mediterranean colleagues. In 2000 started an educational program for harmonizing the knowledge of PRM colleagues at the Mediterranean countries, on topics of current interest. Since then travelling for lecturing voluntarily in several conferences. Seven biannual Mediterranean PRM congresses were successfully organized till 2010 when the presidency was passed to a new president.
  5. IN EUROMEDITERRANEAN AREA-PRM: Pioneer for the creation and operation (together with the Italian colleagues and SIMFER) of the “HAIM RING EURO-MEDITERRANEAN SCHOOL of PRM” in Syracuse of Sicily–Italy since 2005, where every year he teaches free for one week 40 young colleagues on special topics of PRM. All expenses of the attendants are free except the flying tickets.
  6. IN RUSSIA-PRM: After a request from the Union of “All Russian Rehabilitators” (ARUR) a big project was planned by the president of the UEMS PRM Section (N. Christodoulou) and other members of the Executive Committee, with the aim to present and train our Russian colleagues on how we practice Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in Western Europe. The project started in December 2014. Four courses of one week duration each, were given every three months in Vilnius, Moscow, Kazan and St. Petersburg with 36 attendants, who were consultants in their domains. Then it was set up a pilot project for the implementation of the transforms in Rehabilitation to 13 different Regions of Russia. Visits of project Rehabilitation centres for controlling the transforms from Moscow up to Vladivostok.
  7. IN UKRAINE-PRM: A request for transforming the old Rehabilitation system to the modern system of Western Europe has come from the government of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Society of Rehabilitation Medicine. A new plan is set up by the UEMS president to help the Ukrainian colleagues according to their needs.
  8. IN EUROPEAN UNION-SPORTS MEDICINE: The European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations (EFSMA) has asked the UEMS Council to set up a Multidisciplinary Joint Committee on Sports Medicine, with the aim of recognition of Sports Medicine in EU as a primary specialty. The president of UEMS PRM Section (N. Christodoulou) encouraged colleagues from other Sections (Allergology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics etc) to join efforts as representatives of their Sections and set up the MJC on Sports Medicine in collaboration with executives from EFSMA. Since then, a big effort has been done for a European consensus on the sports medicine training requirements and the collection of all the documents from several EU states, proving that in these countries Sports Medicine is recognized as a primary specialty. Collecting from 14 EU countries such documentation, which is more than the 2/5 of all EU states, application was submitted to the special office of European Commission for the recognition, trying to fulfil all the bureaucratic requirements for each step. The mission is at each final stage, waiting for a “delegated act” from the European Commission with which Sports Medicine will finally be recognized as a primary specialty in EU.
