Credit Hours & ECTS

At European University Cyprus course load is quoted in both Credits and ECTS credits. More specifically:

Academic work is measured in credit hours (semester hours of credit). A semester hour is the unit of credit awarded upon satisfactory completion of a course. Courses carry 3 or 4 credits and consist of three or four 50-minute sessions per week. Courses continue over a semester of 16 weeks and grades are given at the end of each semester. Thus, a course meets for approximately 42 - 50 minute sessions per semester.

ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) is a learner-centered system for credit accumulation and transfer based on the transparency of learning outcomes and learning processes. It aims to facilitate planning, delivery, evaluation, recognition and validation of qualifications and units of learning as well as student mobility. ECTS is widely used in formal higher education and can be applied to other lifelong learning activities.
