Cyprus Jazz Workshop 2017

European University Cyprus organizes the 3rd annual Cyprus Jazz Workshop on July 8th to the 13th, 2017. The six-day workshop begins on Saturday, July 8th at 9am with on-site registrations and placement test and ends on Thursday, July 13th, with the final concert at the Cultural Centre of European University Cyprus at 8:30pm. The final concert will include performances by all student combos, the big band and the faculty group. In addition, every afternoon there will be short faculty concerts. The final concert and all afternoon concerts are open and free to the public.

The Cyprus Jazz Workshop (CJW) is organized in collaboration with Jazz Education Abroad, a leader of jazz education around the world, with activities in such places such as Lebanon, Thailand, Afghanistan, China, Taiwan, and elsewhere. Support is also provided by Jamie Aebersold Jazz Books, Los Angeles College of Music & the Lebanese Band Association of Music (LeBAM). Renowned faculty from the USA, Europe and Cyprus will teach at the CJW including Gene Aitken (musical direction), Mariano Abello (saxophone), Mike Dana (el. guitar), Damian Erskine (el. bass), Denny Euprasert (piano/conducting), David Glenn (trombone), Kyle Gregory (trompet), Giorgos Krasides (saxophone), Cahit Kutrafali (el. bass), Paolo Orlandi (drums), Loizos Paphitis (el. guitar), Rob Thomas (violin & strings), Marios Toumbas (piano) and Ioanna Troullidou (voice).

The workshop is open to musicians of all ages, for all instruments (including violin, cello, mandolin, oud, bouzouki etc.) and for all levels. The courses will include daily Jazz Improvisation / Jazz Theory, Jazz Master Classes, Jazz Combos, Jazz Big Bands and Faculty Concerts. The CJW is geared towards young musicians, music students, educators, music lovers, even to those who never had previous experience with jazz music, as well as to those who are interested in attending quality musical events. Its goal is to facilitate the creation of music groups of diverse levels and to provide an opportunity for musicians to meet, exchange ideas and to create musical collaborations in order to cultivate "musical friendships."

The fee for attending Cyprus Jazz Workshop is €125 (€150 after 18th of June) . A limited number of need-based scholarships are available.
