The European University Cyprus (EUC) and the Pierides Foundation, one of the oldest cultural institutions in Cyprus, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to act as the starting point of  an effort for production and preservation of culture in Cyprus. The agreement was signed by the rector of European University of Cyprus Professor Kostas Gouliamos and the Foundation's founder, Mr. Demetris Pierides. The event was held in the Senate room and it was attended by Assistant Professor Yiannis Toumazis Director of the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre and the Pierides Foundation. Also on behalf of the EUC the event was attended by the Vice Rector for Research and External Affairs, Professor Andreas Efstathiou, the Dean of The School of Arts and Education Sciences, Associate Professor Loizos Simeou, the Chairperson of the Department of Arts, Associate Professor Sophia Hadjipapa, Assistant Professor in Art History Elena Stylianou and Graphics Assistant Professor Tasos Anastassiades.

Among others, the agreement includes provisions that strengthen the cooperation of EUC and the Pierides Foundation in the fields of research, and various arts related activities such as exhibitions, seminars and publishing. The agreement also provides the framework for offering students internship opportunities at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

It is worth noting that cooperation between the two institutions is already a reality since students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, are working as interns in the Pierides Foundation museums, such as the museum of Sea and the Municipal Arts Centre in Nicosia. At the same time, EUC faculty are already involved in the production of events and curated exhibitions of the aforementioned museums.

Moreover, the meeting also highlighted the possibility of further cooperation in organising this year's Cultural Month of the European University Cyprus which is dedicated to the poet George Seferis.
