The Molecular and Cellular Biology lab is used by various programs of the Departments of Life and Health Sciences as well as by the School of Medicine for the laboratory instruction of introductory courses in Biology and advanced courses in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry and Immunology. The laboratory has a size of approximately 85 m2 and can accommodate 18 students for each lab session. It is designed and equipped with all the necessary instruments to perform a wide variety of techniques based on the latest advances in the field of Molecular and Cellular Biology, such as Biosafety level II laminar flow cabinets for mammalian cell culture, cell culture CO2 incubators with O2 control, natural convection incubators, shaking incubator, refrigerated centrifuges, waterbaths, fume hood, ice machine, PCR thermal cyclers, real-time PCR instrument, electrophoresis apparatuses for DNA and protein analysis, gel documentation system for DNA and protein gels, ELISA system, biochemical analyzer, UV spectrophotometer, light microscopes, inverted fluorescent microscope, balances, hotplate stirrers, microwave, liquid nitrogen tank, double sliding door 40C refrigerator, -200C refrigerators. In addition, the lab is equipped with all modern teaching tools such as computers, screens and projectors.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Analysis Lab
The lab of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Analysis is suitably equipped to facilitate the training of Pharmacy and Biological Sciences students in modern Laboratory Techniques of Organic, Medicinal and Analytical Chemistry. Students are trained in classical wet lab techniques as well as modern instrumental methods including: HPLC, Potentiometry, UV-Vis and IR Spectroscopy, Polarimetry, Flame Photometry and Fluorometry.
The nursing labs have been designed to provide nursing students opportunities to master nursing skills essential for competent nursing practice. The labs support and complement the clinical aspects of the nursing curriculum. In addition, they provide nursing students opportunities for small group and one-on-one instruction, as well as numerous workshops and reviews in support of the nursing program’s requirements. They are equipped with beds; adult, pediatric and infant mannequin dolls; a torso trainer for heart and breath sounds, mobile carts for medication preparation, intravenous access models and pumps, and a critical care crash cart for emergency response to simulated cardiac/respiratory incidents and various other practice modules.
Laboratory of Exercise Science and Human Performance
The Laboratory of Exercise Science and Human Performance (Sports Lab), is the Health Sciences Department unit that is responsible for the systematic implementation of research projects in the field of Sports and Health Science. It was established in 2005 and since then is the only academic-oriented Sports Laboratory of its’ kind in Cyprus. The lab is located at the premises of the European University Cyprus, covering a total area of 120m2. The lab is equipped with top of the range, highly advanced exercise testing and training apparatus for the evaluation of physical performance and other equipment for blood testing and bio samples processing and storage.
Top range athletes from local and international team and individual sports are regularly visiting Sports Lab for Physical Performance Evaluation and Exercise Prescription.
The radiology lab is licensed for educational use by the Radiation Inspection and Control Service, which is the National Authority dealing with ionizing radiation. It is modeled based on a modern radiology department with equipment covering basic radiology, dental radiology, mammography, DEXA and ultrasounds. It also offers the ability to learn the use of both analogue and digital ways of producing a correct clinical image.
The Biology/Microbiology Laboratory is designed according to international quality standards and guidelines, such as the ISO17025 standard, so as to ensure that all laboratory exercises taking place are performed with safety and that the experimental results produced are both valid and reliable. The lab offers Biosafety level 2 conditions (BSL2).
It consists of a main room sitting 16 students and two ancillary rooms: a preparation room and a sterilization room, adhering to the ‘no way back’ principle. In addition, the lab is equipped with all appropriate culture media, reagents, microorganisms, plant and animal tissues and glassware. The lab is used by various programs of the Department of Health Sciences for the laboratory instruction of introductory and advanced courses in Biology and Microbiology.
This lab includes instruments for assessing body composition, namely: Scales and Height measurements, Skinfold calibers, Tapes for measuring waist, hip and head circumferences, Bioelectrical impedance for body composition measurements, Food models, Food scales, Standard food measuring cups, spoons and other cups, Food composition tables, Computers and nutrition programs for nutritional assessments.
The laboratory includes the following: A standard large kitchen with 3 ovens, microwave ovens, dishwasher, 2-3 refrigerators and freezer. By the end of the courses students are able to acquire skills in preparing specialized menus according to the state of health of the persons to be nutritiously balanced and attractive, (appearance, taste, smell) and to follow health and safety standards in the kitchen (e.g. HACCP - Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points).
The Physics laboratory can accommodate approximately 15 students. It is equipped for a range of experiments in mechanics, waves, electricity, and optics. Students are divided in 3-4 groups and work concurrently on different experiments. Some of the experiments are demonstration experiments. Each room is equipped with a computer and a range of instruments, for psychological tests required for data collection and analysis of information gathered from psychological experiments undertaken in the laboratory.
Physical therapy students get their practical training and assimilate theoretical background while applying the necessary skills and competences in a variety of established specialized laboratories. All our laboratories are equipped with the latest technology equipment, applying the highest scientific and ergonomic standards to protect users, and are capable to cover completely all subjects taught.

Kinesiology and exercise therapy lab:
Isokinetic Dynamemeter CYBEX HUMAC NORM, platforms of assessing balance, electronic hand dynamometers, exercise stations, goniometers, exercise station theraband, unstable platforms for proprioception, weights, elastic bands, medical sticks and gym balls.
Εectrotherapy lab: Ultrasound Shockwave, Short waves, microwaves, ultrasounds, magnetic fields, mechanical traction, kryotherapy and thermotherapy equipment, paraffin baths, Laser, equipments for analgesia, TENS, galvanicfaradic currents, electric adjustable beds, wooden beds and chairs.
Manual Therapy Lab: 10 electric beds for manual therapy and massage techniques.
General Psychology And Psychotherapy Lab
The General Psychology and Psychotherapy Lab consists of two soundproof rooms separated with a one-way mirror. One of them is set up as an observation and testing room (Section A), and the second as a therapy room (Section B). Individuals in the observation and testing room (Section A) can view subjects in the therapy room (Section B) through a one-way mirror.
The observation/testing room (Section A) contains 1 PC with internet and audiovisual equipment used for clinical supervision and viewing of video recorded clinical sessions.The therapy room (Section B) is equipped with audio/video recording equipment for recording therapy sessions. In addition, the lab is used for psychological assessment. For this purpose one can find in the laboratory a series of psychometric tools, for the assessment of cognitive, personality, and emotional functioning.
Language, Speech And Hearing Clinic
The mission of the Language, Speech, and Hearing Clinic is two-fold: to provide services that fit the unique communication needs and improve the quality of life for individuals with communication disorders and their families, and to promote excellence in clinical training of the Speech Therapy Program students.
The Clinic facilities and infrastructure are state-ofthe- art and they include five (5) therapy rooms; Audiology Booth for hearing and auditory function assessment; waiting room; conference room and two model classrooms. The Clinic instrumentation includes instruments to measure nasal and voice function (nasometer, Visi-Pitch, CSL Computerized Speech Lab); a complete library of standardized tests of speech and language (in greek and English); Video-otoscope, clinical audiometer, tympatometer; Internal Audio-visual supervision system.
The Clinic services include diagnostic evaluations and intervention for disorders of language, speech, feeding/swallowing. Specifically, the Clinic provides identification and intervention for all ages in the areas of developmental speech disorders; language delay/disorders; language and speech disorders related to CVA; communication disorders related to neurological disease; memory and attention disorders; fluency disorders; voice disorders; laryngectomy-rehabilitation; disorders of feeding and swallowing; other disorders of Speech and Language; hearing evaluations for children and adults; aural rehabilitation; evaluations of auditory processing.
Services are provided by experienced clinical personnel from the Language, Speech and Hearing Clinic of European University Cyprus, as well as by supervised students. The Clinic accepts referrals from pediatricians, medical specialists and other professionals, including psychologists, educators, ergo and physical therapists, schools, medical centers and parents.
The Psychology degree program is supported by two Psychology labs, whose role is to provide opportunities for students to observe activities and work on tasks and projects in a laboratory environment. The Experimental Psychology Lab is additionally used for the implementation of actual running research projects. Both labs are located on the European University Cyprus campus and are equipped with a number of apparatus as well as psychometric instruments as described below. There is partial, functional overlap in space and materials between the 2 Labs, which remain differentiated in use, targeted audience and schedule nonetheless. The equipment is continuously updated depending on instructional needs and the needs of the academic staff. In particular, the two labs are the following: A.
Experimental Psychology Lab/ |Laboratory for Social Research (LSR)
The following equipment is available:
1. Three personal computers, networked with the rest of the campus computing facilities; with office automation software packages (word processors, spreadsheets, databases, presentation packages) installed
2. Eye tracking device along with PC Eye Tracker Software.
3. Galvanic skin response detector.
4. Digital oscilloscope (ψηφιακός παλμογράφος) along with Logger Pro Data Acquisition Software.
5. Laboratory in Cognition and Perception (Experimental paradigm software).
6. 1 TV set complete with 1 VCR, 2 videocameras,
1 LCD projector,1 digital audio mixer, 1 video-server complete with 2 screens, 3 digital recorders, and at least 3 table-mounted microphones in the focus group room.
7. E-Prime Computer-based psychological testing is also available in the General Psychology and Psychotherapy Laboratory and can be used for experimental design implementation and execution.
B. General Psychology and Psychotherapy Lab
The General Psychology and Psychotherapy Lab consists of two spacious soundproof rooms. One of these is set up as a Testing Room (Section A) and the second room as a Data Collection Room (Section B). Individuals in the Data Collection Room (Section B) can view subjects in the Testing Room (Section A) via a one-way mirror. The Testing Room (Section A) contains 1 PC with Internet, European University Cyprus network access and access to relevant psychology software.
The eye tracking device is also set up in the Testing Room. The data collection room (Section B) is equipped with the rest of the apparatus and software described slightly above within the same document. In addition, stored in the Data Collection Room (Section B) one can find a lockable filing cabinet with various psychometric tests, for the purposes of assessing intelligence, personality, development, memory, cognition, learning, depression, anxiety, trauma symptoms, etc. Other tests include vocational assessment and neuropsychological assessment inventories.
Laboratory of Computer Graphics and Image Processing
The laboratory of Computer Graphics and Image Processing was established in 2006. The lab’s mission is to contribute towards the state of the art in scientific knowledge in the general areas of computer graphics and image processing and in the more specific areas of 2D and 3D feature extraction, 3D face reconstruction (and relevant applications) and mobile image processing. Additionally, the lab’s mission is to train students and generate new courses thus contributing in science and society in Cyprus and internationally. It has established collaborations with renowned scholars and institutions in Cyprus and internationally. The research results are published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and conferences. One research interest of particular significance is the development of vision products for the blind and the visually impaired that run exclusively on smart phones as it lead to industrial products, patents and international recognition.
The movement Lab was established in 2008 with the beginning of the Physiotherapy program and it serves as the backbone of the Physiotherapy education. In the movement lab a great number of the curriculum courses take place such as Kinesiology, Kinesiotherapy, Biomechanics, Physiotherapy assessment, Neurological Rehabilitation etc. The movement lab aims in understanding the human movement, in the distinction between the normal and pathological pattern, in the selection and the application of exercises in rehabilitation and in the assessment of strength, balances, flexibility and range of movement. The Physiotherapy student must be able to analyze human posture and gait, balance, muscular work etc. The theoretical training and practical application will allow students to define the motor dysfunction and to organize a rehabilitation program. The lab is equipped with a large range of machines and instruments.
The cardiorespiratory lab was established in 2010 to accommodate physiotherapy students for their training in cardiac and respiratory rehabilitation. The lab facilitates courses such as Cardiovascular rehabilitation, Respiratory rehabilitation, First Aid etc. Cardiorespiratory rehabilitation is a great chapter in the Physiotherapy training since it takes place in every rehabilitation action. The lab is equipped with the latest control devises for the cardiorespiratory capacity of the patient.
