Dr. Maria Papazachariou - Christoforou is currently a scientific collaborator in the School of Humanities, Social & Education Sciences of the European University Cyprus. She is also an assistant director (since 2014) and music consultant (since 2008) in public primary education in Cyprus and she has been a music educator since 1993.
She holds a Diploma of Pedagogical Academy Cyprus (1993), a Bachelor Degree in Primary Education from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1998), a Master Degree of Music in Music Education from Michigan State University USA (2008), and a PhD from the Kapodistrian University of Athens (2016). She has studied piano, music theory and harmony in Royal Schools of Music (1989) and she is specialized in the Music Learning Theory approach (2005-2008). Her areas of interest are infant, early childhood and children music learning and teaching, and also the informal music learning practices. She is engrossed in the sociology of music pedagogy and she is applying democratic approaches of music learning in her teaching contexts.
She has worked in the Pedagogical Institute of the Ministry of Education in Cyprus (2010-2015), and she was involved in the creation of the Music Curricula for Pre primary and Primary Education. During this period she taught several seminars and workshops for in service music teachers.
She is actively involved in the training and professional development of the in-service music teachers from the position of the music consultant in the Ministry of Education and Culture all over Cyprus and she gives seminars and workshops. She is a member of the team responsible for the creation of music books and for the development of teaching material concerning primary music education.
She is a member of ISME, GIML , ΕΕΜΕ and MouSyKy.
