Sophia Hadjipapa-Gee is a PhD holder in Art History and Fine Arts from the National Academy of Arts of Sofia, Bulgaria. Her first degree was in Painting again from the National Academy of Arts of Sofia, where she also completed a Masters degree, in Painting. She has taught Art Education at the University of Cyprus in 2004 and worked at Cyprus College as lecturer of Fine Arts from 2005 until 2007. She served as the coordinator of the Graphic Design and Advertising Program from 2005 until 2010. In 2007 she was appointed assistant professor of Fine Arts in the Department of Arts of the European University- Cyprus. In 2007 she was elected Chairperson of the Department. From 2008 up to now she serves the department from the position of Vice-Chair. Her research interest include art historical matters such as the construction of national identity as reflected in the art of Greece and Bulgaria, between the two World Wars and the Byzantine influences in the art of the period. She has presented papers on the modern art of Bulgaria and Greece in academic conferences and peer-reviewed journals in Bulgaria and the U.K. Her research has lately concentrated on creative work, which she has presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions Cyprus, Europe and the United States. Besides painting she has worked on illustrations of poems, covers of books and has been involved in Public art, interventions in Public spaces and video art, which have been presented in international festivals. She has also curated group shows herself, among which the Annual Young Cypriot Artists Exhibition, which she curated from 2008 to 2011.
