Eleni Athanasiou joined EUC in 2009 as a Lecturer in the Social Work Programme. She has taught at Birkbeck College/University of London as part of the MSc in Youth Participation and has been involved in a research project on youth services and youth participation. She previously worked for different local authorities in the UK with children, young people and families. Eleni has an MSc in Health and Social Services from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. Her dissertation focused on the framework for the assessment of children in need and their families.
Eleni completed her doctoral study at LSE that focused on multi-disciplinary and inter-agency collaboration, exploring policy implementation related to protecting children and young people from abuse and/or neglect. She also has experience of practice teaching and supervision at the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, and a teacher training qualification. Eleni is a member of various associations: the Hellenic Association of Social Workers (Greece), the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family (Cyprus), and the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.
