Commemoration of 40 years of China’s Reforms at EUC

European University Cyprus hosted a workshop on “China’s Development and Commemoration of 40 years of China’s Reform and Opening up” organized by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Cyprus.

The year 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the Third Plenum’s decisions on opening-up and reform (1978).

The workshop initiated a systematic, theory-guided analysis of China’s socio-economic development path in a reviewing perspective. In his speech, Mr. Huang Xingyuan

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Cyprus emphasized the opportunities and the fruitful results of a dual cooperation in trade and economic exchange. Ambassador Huang Xingyuan pointed among other matters that “the Chinese Government has introduced more than 1,500 reform measures, bringing in breakthroughs in reforms of important areas and key sectors”.

The Opening Ceremony was addressed by Professor Kostas Gouliamos, Rector of the European University Cyprus, who noted that “China has successfully transformed from a nearly closed state into a fully integrated international economy and has become not just an active participant but – most important – a leading power in the global political and economic spheres”. Rector Gouliamos concluded his opening address by underling the issue that in the 21st “China is a stabilizer and driver power for security, peace, intercultural, economic and educational development”.

Invited Speakers stressed also the fertile cooperation between China and Cyprus and the need in further enhancing greater understanding and synergies.

Guests in the workshop included senior officials from the Embassy of China in Cyprus, representatives of political parties, directors of research institutes, and members of the industrial, commercial, diplomatic and academic fields.
